Synopsis[]
Caitlyn and Vi meet an ally in Zaun’s streets and head into a frenzied battle with a common foe. Viktor makes a dire decision.
Plot[]
Both Caitlyn and Vi were tied and sacked by the Firelights. The two argue back and forth about who captured them and about Jinx. Soon, Vi is taken away by a guard and taken to the leader's room, who unmasks himself and, to Vi's surprise, reveals himself to be Ekko. He asks her about the crystal, which Vi does not know, and then about Jinx. The question about Jinx causes Vi to lash out at Ekko, demanding he call her Powder and remind them of their past relationship, but Ekko claims that was the past. Ekko then asks if she works for Silco, which she refuses to answer, and Ekko goes on a tangent about how she "died". However, as their conversation continues, Vi reveals that she is free from her restraints, and she graciously hugs Ekko, who starts to tear up.
In his home, Singed observes the sample given to him by Viktor and expresses interest in seeing the hexcore, but Viktor notes the difficulty of doing that. Viktor also details the failures of his endeavors to master the core, but Singed argues that it was the proper subjects he lacked, not the calculations. He then holds up a small vial of a Shimmer variant, which he claims would help any test subject survive the hexcore process. Viktor asks if it'll help his plant subjects survive, but Singed claims that he knows Viktor is desperate, but warns him he'll become what he despises. Singed also claims it's one of the reasons why he parted ways with Hiemerdinger, which Viktor hopes Jayce will be more accepting of this.
Meanwhile, Jayce works with a massive forge and is soon joined by Mel, who compliments his work efforts. Jayce asks her how he found him, and she comments that he's the de facto leader of the council, which he lightly scorns. Mel talks about the people's displeasure with the shutdown border, and Jayce claims they should be. A curious Mel looks at the explosive device that Marcus gave Jayce, and he talks to her about it. However, Mel asks him if the device and the Shimmer is all he's agitated about, and Jayce claims that his betrayal of his Mentor. On the other hand, Mel consoles Jayce, comparing her family's relationship with his thoughts and emotions toward his betrayal of Heimerdinger. She then asks about Viktor's location, but Jayce doesn't know where he is or Caitlyn. Hence, Mel assures Jayce that she'll stall the council so he can work, without disruption, on his project and takes her leave.
The unbound Sevika reports to Silco about the current events surrounding the Enforcers, and Silco notes that Marcus is following his orders about Caitylin and Vi. Sevika considers him to be a turncoat and advises him to allow Jinx to come to him, stating she'll do that when she's ready.
Jinx has a meltdown about letting Vi get taken as the voice of Mylo haunts her.
Back on Vi's side, she's shown the sprawling and beautiful hideaway of the Firelights, which has a giant tree as its main pillar. It was founded after Vander's death, and it's a safe haven after Silco flooded the lanes with Shimmer. A brief debate sparks between Ekko and Vi, whereas Vi still calls Jinx Powder, and Ekko tries to reason with Vi that she's on Silco's side. Ekko shows Vi a collage mural of everyone lost thanks to the fall of the Lanes to dissuade Vi of her thoughts on her sister.
Enforcers charge at would-be trespassers by the bridge, and Viktor sits close by as Jayce gives him the clear after talking it over with Marcus. The two then discuss it, and Viktor is surprised that Jayce ordered the blockade. Jayce stated that the people of the undercity were hellbent on destroying the upper city, but Viktor reminded him he was from the Lanes, as was his contact, who he claimed offered no help.
Silco and Sevika attended a meeting with the other Chem-Barons about the current situation surrounding the Enforcers blocking the bridge to the upper city. One of the Chem-Barons questions Silco's authority there, but then Sevika, now wearing a mask, turns the valve of a tank, unleashing the toxic gases from the lanes. As the Chem-Barons start to cough and wheeze, masks are given to them, and Silco calmly states that the precious air and life they enjoy are all because of him. After giving Finn, the most vocal of the Chem-Barons, a mask, Silco takes his leave.
Elora reports to Mel that their friend from overseas is drawing attention and making Piltover seem vulnerable. Mel claims that it's too soon, and Jayce isn't ready. Elora then hands Mel a letter, which shocks her.
Caitlyn is unbound and unmasked by a Firelight member who offers her a bowl of water to drink, but she knocks it away and sees Ekko sitting close by. She demands that Vi be let go in exchange for her. Vi sarcastically calls Caitlyn her hero, shocking Caitlyn, who thought she was their hostage. Ekko claims that Caitlyn can be trusted and demands that they follow them.
Inside his office, Silco sits on his desk chair and tries to use a needle device to apply something to his left eye when Jinx appears. She uses Silco's device on his face to interrogate him about Vi, but Silco manages to coax Jinx to calm her down and see his reasoning. In return, Jinx uses the device on Silco's left eye and leaves.
Caitlyn was amazed by the area, which Ekko claims is a disparity with what Piltover thinks of them and that Silco pays Enforcers to hunt them down. On the other hand, Caitlyn refutes the claim, and Vi intervenes in Caitlyn's defense. Ekko then asks if they know what the crystal is, and Caitlyn reveals that it's a gemstone that Jinx stole during one of her attacks. She goes on to explain that anyone with the right knowledge could build any hextetch device. Although Ekko wants to use the gem to fight against Silco, Caitlyn tries to reason with him to reconsider noting the repercussions. Caitlyn offers to take it to a friend of hers in the Council, but Ekko wants to be the one who gives it to him.
At Jayce's workshop, Viktor examines Jinx's bomb beside Mel and Jayce. Viktor compliments its craft, and Jayce thinks they made a crack at hextech, and Viktor doesn't rule out the possibility. Mel notes that they may have found a way to utilize the power of the gemstone, and to counter this, weapons should be manufactured, which Viktor and Jayce vehemently disapprove of. However, Mel notes that they need to defend themselves from what's to come, leaves the final choice up to Jayce, and takes her leave.
Viktor curses the idea, but Jayce considers the possibility of Mel being right. This leads to a minor debate on the morality of the decision, and Jayce decides to think it over.
Eventually, Jayce contemplates how he'll proceed, and speaking to his mother, Jayce warns her that he'll do something he never thought he had in him.
By the Hexcore, Viktor injects himself with Shimmer, slices open his left hand, and then forces himself to touch the hexcore, which triggers a reaction in his body.
On their way to the surface, Vi parted ways with Caitlyn and Ekko, noting that she had to return to Jinx. Unbeknownst to them, Jinx was watching over them as an apparition of Mylo spoke wily discouraging words, and Jinx brushed them off.
As Caitlyn and Ekko continue onward, Marcus and other Enforcers stop them. Caitlyn shows her Enforcer badge and claims they have proof that Silco is behind everything. Marcus demands proof, and despite Ekko protesting, Caitlyn makes him show them the Gemstone. Upon seeing it, Marcus fires at Ekko and aims his pistol at the bewildered Caitlyn. Vi rushes back, all while Jinx witnesses the entire scene unfold. Enraged, Jinx sets loose explosive fireflies onto the area, knocking everyone unconscious. She'd then enter the scene humming a tune as Caitlyn regained consciousness and realized that her left thigh was wounded.
Vi arrives and takes Caitlyn around her shoulder as Jinx appears. Jinx takes the canister the gemstone was in, and seeing Caitlyn around Vi's arm triggers her and makes her fire her gun at them. The two deftly dodge the bullets, and Ekko rides on his hoverboard, attacking Jinx and causing her to drop the gemstone canister, allowing him to retrieve it and pass it to Caitlyn. Ekko yells at them to go as Vi glances at Jinx, while Ekko fights against Jinx, but in the end, when he has her at his mercy. she activates a grenade, which explodes, leaving behind her unconscious body and Ekko's broken watch.
